Faces of Bristol (ongoing)
The Faces of Bristol Project started in 2016 as a way to engage more closely with the people who I photograph. I had found that if I took a few street portraits early on during the day, I was more likely to get closer to my subjects when taking candid shots.
In 2015 the M-Shed museum in Bristol hosted the Open for Business exhibition featuring a number of different famous photographers capturing aspects of the British manufacturing industry. The photographs that really fascinated me were those by Bruce Gilden. He had got close to his subjects. Really close. Warts and all close. But the thing that fascinated me most was how raw and real he had captured his subjects.
While I do not profess to have anywhere near the skills or vision of Bruce Gilden, I would be lying if I said that his images from the Open for Business exhibition hasn’t heavily influenced my Faces of Bristol project.
This is an unfinished project.
Photos in this project are street portraits and are not candid.
