Two photos that I made at St Pauls Carnival are on display at the Arnolfini in Bristol until 11th August 2019 as part of the Carnival Pop-Up exhibition. Curated by the Martin Parr Foundation, the exhibition features work from Martin Parr, Matt Stuart, Lua Ribeira, and emerging photographers.
St Pauls Carnival is a celebration of African Caribbean culture in the city of Bristol. The St Pauls community gather together to create carnival floats, performances, event stages, and sound systems that quite literally rock you to your core.
I was unable to watch the main carnival procession, but I did make photographs both before and after. The anticipation of carnival followed by wild street parties certainly make it a colourful day to remember.
